Testimony & Faith
Thursday, January 31, 2013 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
As Christians we are called to seriously reflect on the content of our faith, examine our lives and give witness of our faith to others. In a culture that seems to grow in doubt, indifferentism and open hostility towards faith, what should committed Christian testimony about the contents of faith look like today?

One answer to this complex question has been articulated in the writings of the late (d. 2008) Cardinal Avery Dulles. Dulles, drawing from Scripture scholarship, existential philosophy and fundamental theology, advocates certain indices for Christian testimony. His insights, if followed, could not only assist in the task of evangelization but also in how we carry out the closely related tasks of apologetics (defending faith) so that we may "give a defense of the hope that is within you" (1 Peter 3:15), and catechetics (systematic teaching of faith).

Dr. Steven J. Meyer holds a Sacred Theological Doctorate (S.T.D.) in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy. He has a Sacred Theological Licentiate (S.T.L.) from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC. Meyer also has a Master and Bachelor of Arts in Theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He is an alumnus of St. Thomas High School in Houston where he taught for 14 years in the theology department. Meyer currently serves as an assistant professor in theology for the University of St. Thomas School of Theology at St. Mary's Seminary.
