Presentation on Air Pollution
Wednesday, July 3, 2013 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Eduardo Olaguer, a chief air pollution scientist and meteorologist at the Houston Advanced Research Center, will give a presentation on air pollution along the Ship Channel Corridor and a current effort to monitor, identify hot spots, and predict the source of emissions for air pollution and in particular BTEX. BTEX is an acronym for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene, which are some of the worst substances within hydrocarbons and their manufactured products.

Jay Olaguer holds a Ph.D. in Meteorology from MIT, and is a Senior Research Scientist and the Director of Air Quality Research at HARC. Dr. Olaguer has designed and built complex 3-D models of the global atmosphere and urban air quality, including a global multi-media, radiative-dynamical-chemical model of the lower and middle atmospheres, and the HARC neighborhood air quality model. He also contributed to the development of EPA’s HAPEM and pNEM models of human exposure.
