National SleepOut Saturday
Saturday, November 12, 2011 7:30 PM to Sunday, November 13, 2011 7:30 AM
The University of St. Thomas Social Justice Committee invites you to participate in National SleepOut Saturday (NSOS). The objective of NSOS is to create Appreciation, Empathy, Understanding and Action through this shared experience that focuses on homelessness across the United States. It will help the participants renew their Appreciation for the things that they have by allowing them to spend time without it. It will create Empathy and Understanding for those who suffer through hunger and homelessness by educating the participants on the realities that these members of our communities face.
We encourage participants to bring the bare minimum for the SleepOut event as the objective is to see what it is like to go without. We strongly discourage tents, iPods and bringing an abundance of snacks as the homeless often do not have the luxury of choosing when they will eat.
We recommend participants only bring the following items: sleeping bag, blanket, pillow, and a notebook to document your experience. This event will take place rain or shine. $2 parking in Moran Center Garage. This is a free event.
