Neurobioethics: The Human Person
Tuesday, September 25, 2012 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Chi-Rho Theology Club invites you to “Neurobioethics: The Human Person at the Center of Neuroscience, Ethics, Law and Society” with Dr. Alberto García Gomez at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 in Cullen Hall.
Dr. Alberto Garcia Gomez will cover an overview of:
• Bioethics of neuroscience: Interventions on human brain for experimental and clinical purposes as well as cognitive and emotional enhancement interventions
• Neuroscience of ethics: Brain-body-mind relation and its legal implications of freedom-responsibility-imputability. Neuroscientific evidence in court, rehabilitation of criminals and prediction of criminal behavior.
This approach will consider a realistic vision of human rights, since they are personal fundamental goods that should be recognized, respected and guaranteed. Human dignity, as a conclusion, derives neither from complexity of our biological structures, nor from our mental capacities or functions. It is from our metaphysical condition of being humans as persons and subjects of rights.
