2013 Aquinas Lecture
Thursday, January 24, 2013 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
The University of St. Thomas Center for Thomistic Studies will host Rev. Kevin Flannery, S.J., Pontifical Gregorian University, as he gives this year’s Aquinas Lecture titled “The Capacious Mind of Thomas Aquinas.”
Following the thought of Thomas Aquinas, the Church voccasionally calls upon Christians to make difficult choices. Is there a good reason to follow Thomas in such regards? Fr. Flannery argues that, yes, there is.
Fr. Flannery entered the Society of Jesus in 1977, was ordained a priest in 1987 and took his final vows in 1999. Having a B.A. in English Literature from Ohio State University, an M.A. in Anglo-Irish Studies from University College Dublin, an M.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford, an M.Div. and an S.T.L. in Patristics from Weston School of Theology, as well as a D.Phil. in Philosophy from the University of Oxford, he should be a good judge of capacious minds.
Fr. Flanneryhas published three books and has two more forthcoming: Christian and Moral Action from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences Press and Action and Character according to Aristotle: The Logic of the Moral Life from the Catholic University of America Press. He has published widely in various refereed journals.
