School of Education Renamed to Include Human Services

This summer, the University of St. Thomas School of Education will be renamed the School of Education and Human Services. The school’s new name will reflect the increased academic programs that it offers. Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), and Criminology, Law, and Society (CLS ) share a common mission to serve the community in a direct and impactful way. Read more

Education Students Gain Cultural Insight in Jamaica

Nine students from the University of St. Thomas School of Education and Human Services traveled to Lucea, Jamaica, with the University's study abroad program this January. They were immersed in Jamaican culture as they stayed with families, participated in school and community activities, and assisted in the community. Read more

Walters Named One of Houston’s Most Influential Women

Houston Women’s Magazine has recognized Dr. Nicole McZeal Walters, assistant professor and associate dean of graduate programs in the School of Education and Human Services at UST, as one of Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women of 2014. Walters was nominated by Dr. Lillian Poats, education dean at Texas Southern University.  Read more

Education Professor Speaks on Learning Differences

Dr. Randy Soffer, assistant professor at UST’s School of Education and Human Services, shared his top 10 suggestions for serving “differently-abled” students at St. Thomas High School’s third annual conference. Soffer emphasized the use of low-cost strategies and the advances in cognitive psychology, educational psychology and neuroscience to help students succeed. Read more

Rimbau is Bound for Colombia with Fulbright Fellowship

Dr. Rimbau, Chair of Bilingual and Dual Language Programs at the University of St. Thomas School of Education and Human Services, has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and assigned to work with local educators and students in San Andreas, Colombia, for the next five years to address their bilingual needs.
