|President’s Day of Service
Founded in conjunction with Dr. Ivany’s inauguration in 2005, the President’s Day of Service is a time honored tradition which gives the campus community an opportunity to truly embody the St. Thomas mission of educating leaders of faith and character.
Open to all Celts – students, alumni, faculty, staff and families, the President’s Day of Service occurs in February and offers a wide range of service projects where Celts work side-by-side and support the University without leaving campus.
The projects are flexible and are determined by the needs of the University and of the surrounding community. In 2012, the schedule and projects that were completed are listed below.
The day begins at 8 a.m. with a breakfast with Dr. Ivany in Crooker Center.
All service projects begin at 9 a.m. and include:
UST Best Buddies Sports Camp for PDS
The University of St. Thomas Best Buddies Chapter will be collaborating with UST's students and athletes to provide a fun, energetic, and informative experience for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The activities to be included are basketball and other sport related games for which the athletes and volunteers will provide instruction on sport skills to the buddies. Volunteers are needed for help in instruction and participation in the event. Volunteers and athletes must be comfortable with working with persons with disabilities, both intellectual and physical.
Care Packages for Texas Children’s Hospital
Making care packages and cards for children at the Texas Children’s Hospital.
Making fleece blankets for area Fire Departments.
Painting in the Student Affairs office.
This project will consist of planting outside the new HR location.
Beautification of UST
Various projects consisting of: cleaning of the seal, house signs, golf carts and the benches around campus.
Thank You Cards
Writing thank you cards for university donors.
