The University of St. Thomas is committed to the safety and security of all community members and visitors. The University of St. Thomas developed the campaign "Get Ready, Already!" to create awareness among students, staff and faculty members about emergency management issues and procedures. The campaign features Dane G. Ross, a character who personifies disaster and personal safety situations that could happen at any time. It is a call to action for the campus community to “Be Aware, Be Prepared and Take Action!”
St. Thomas received a $245,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to create a comprehensive plan to develop, review, improve and fully integrate campus-based all-hazards emergency management and business continuity plans. UST was the only school in Texas to receive funds from the Emergency Management for Higher Education
Program, which provided grants to 17 schools nationwide.
Project Co-Director Chris Barry said the grant will enhance the University’s ability to prevent, prepare, respond and recover from emergencies.
“As part of the grant, UST will expand partnerships with local law enforcement, behavior and mental health agencies, first responders and government agencies to assist us in the event of an emergency,” Barry said.
The awareness campaign will include a Safety Week with hands-on and information activities, mock drills and campus training.
