Severe Weather and Flash Flood
Natural disasters happen all over the country and they can be devastating. You cannot control the weather, but you can take important steps to BE PREPARED to minimize damage and loss of life during a natural disaster. 
 
Severe Thunderstorm Watch or Warning:
  • Stay indoors until the threat has passed. 
 
Tornado Watch: (possible tornado)
  • The University will operate normally and will be taking precautions relative to the severity of the storm. 
 
Tornado Warning: (A tornado has been sited and is a possible threat)
  • The University will notify the campus community via UST Alert and through the website.
  • Alert occupants to the situation and direct them to interior rooms away from windows.
  • Keep calm and move to interior rooms away from windows.
  • Use your arms to protect your head and neck from potential falling debris.
  • Windows and doors should remain closed.
  • Prevent people from exiting the facility until receiving the “all clear”.
  • People outside or in automobiles should take cover in the nearest building.

If Outdoors:

  • Lie in a ditch or a low area if there is no time to get inside.
 
Flash Flood

If Indoors:

  • Prepare to evacuate as ordered by University officials.

If Outdoors:

  • Go to high ground immediately.  Avoid walking or driving through standing water as depth is hard to gauge.
