Power Failure
  • Call Facilities Operations at 713-525-3135, or after hours, call the UST Police Department at 713-525-3888.
    • Be prepared to give the building name, room number and nature of the problem.
  • Alert occupants of the threat and assist others in evacuating.
  • Do not return to an evacuated building unless told to do so by a University official. 
 
Gas Leak:
If you detect a gas leak or think gas is leaking
  • Do not use light switches, cell phones or telephones.  Also, do not open/close drawers, cabinets or doors when leaving.
  • Alert occupants of the threat and assist others in evacuating.
  • Do not use exits near the leak area.
  • Assemble at least 300 feet upwind of the area. 
  • Immediately call the UST Police Department at 713-525-3888 and give the following information:
    • Location, building name and address of smell/leak
    • Can the leak/spill source be immediately identified?
    • Extent of leak/spill (i.e. strength of the odor or gas)
    • Is anyone experiencing symptoms of exposure?
  • Do not return to an evacuated building unless told to do so by the University official.

 

 
Environmental Disaster/Shelter-in-Place:
For chemical or environment disasters, follow these steps:
  • Go inside building and close all windows and doors.
  • Turn off air conditioning.
  • Turn radio, TV or computer to local news station or weather channel.
  • For chemical: cover your mouth with a damp cloth, take frequent shallow breaths and stay calm.
  • Do not leave the building until given official notification that the danger has passed.
