Irish musicologist Áine Mangaoang will be giving a talk entitled "Music on the Margins” (or, "Performing Michael Jackson in Prison"). "Music on the Margins" traces how music is used and experienced in contemporary carceral cultures, drawing from ethnographic fieldwork in Filipino and Norwegian prisons, alongside close readings of prison music and digital, audiovisual outputs.
