Event flyer

The renowned Houston-based Violin and Piano ensemble The Dancewicz-Doucet Duo presents "Identity", a concert that highlights the personal, political and social conditions that shaped and gave the composers their unique voice. On the program are rare and exciting gems of the violin and piano repertoire: Violin Sonata by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, who was not only the super star pianist of his era, but also the statesman, prime minister of Poland in 1919, and the spokesman for the cause of Polish independence in the early 20th century. Next on the program is the fun, lighthearted "Blackberry Hill Rag" by the Houston-based internationally renowned composer and Rice University professor Arthur Gottschalk, whose iconic humor, wit and seamless craft defines the well-known genre of ragtime. The highlight of the recital is the epic Violin Sonata by the American woman composer of the Victorian era, Amy Beach. As always, The Duo will speak and banter with the audience, giving the context and storyline to the music. The recital is an excellent educational opportunity for music lovers, students and fellow artists. The Dancewicz-Doucet Duo, featuring violinist Dominika Dancewicz and pianist Donald Doucet is known for creating compelling, thought-provoking programs and for passionate, charismatic performances.
