UST Faculty Colloquium
Thursday, February 28, 2019 12:15 PM to 2:00 PM
University of St. Thomas - Houston logo

UST Faculty and Administrators are invited to this event hosted by the President's Office. Dr. Javoris Hollingsworth presents "Development of Low-Cost Materials: Addressing the Demand for Clean Water." To address the growing demand for clean water on a global scale, functional nanoparticles have gained much interest. A promising approach involves the use of nanotechnology that incorporates waste, such as orange peels. The active component of the peel, known as pectin, is capable of sticking to metals that may be present in contaminated water. By combining this feature with nanoparticles, we may identify a new reusable method for removing toxic metals from various water sources.
