School of Theology at St. Mary’s SeminaryThe School or Arts & Sciences Division of The School of Theology provides a theological education supported by the Magisterial teachings of the church. Our faculty are active in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and seek to enhance your understanding of the church’s teaching in the core theological disciplines (Scripture, Systematic Theology, Church History, Moral Theology, Sacramental Theology) so you can present it to others as you serve the church and the people of God.

The degrees and certificates we offer cater to students seeking ordination as well as those who wish to serve in the lay ministry. Most attend part-time and class schedules are flexible. We’ve had students complete their degree in as little as two years, but there is no time limit.

Outcomes data is reviewed annually to help evaluate the effectiveness of each course and placement of graduates is monitored to ensure your training is consistent with the needs of our client dioceses.

Prepares you for ordination into the permanent diaconate in addition to parish opportunities in areas such as religious education and youth and social ministry. From 2013-2017, 100% of graduates were ordained to the permanent diaconate.

If you wish to attend or audit classes for personal enrichment and to learn about theology, we welcome you.
