Psychology students at the University of St. Thomas will experience an integrated approach to learning, including areas of applied research and research methods, social justice and the study of behavioral and biological aspects of the human person. The psychology curriculum includes the following components:

  • Social justice – The inherent dignity of every person is integral to every psychology class with some classes offering a specific social justice component as a class requirement.
  • Service-Learning – Some psychology classes will require that students volunteer in the community in order to apply theoretical learning to daily life experiences.
  • Science Foundation – Students will receive a strong science foundation through instruction in scientific psychology and biological bases of behavior.
  • Internships – Psychology student will have the option to complete an internship as a capstone experience. Internships are available at a variety of local nonprofit organizations and medical facilities.

What can I do with this major?

Schnapp Scholarship

Each spring, qualified students who are currently juniors in the Department of Psychology are eligible to compete for funding provided by the Julia Arnold Schnapp Endowed Fund for Undergraduate Mental Health Research. Students who apply are asked to write an essay by describing their scholarly accomplishments; their contributions to the psychology department, the University as a whole and to the community; and their future goals in psychology. Scholarships are granted from this pool of applicants.

Psychology Student Organizations
Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology. Undergraduate students are invited to join the chapter at University of St. Thomas once they have accrued the necessary credit hours in psychology and grade point average requirements. The Psi Chi chapter at UST is actively engaged in campus and community events.
