The Master of Arts in Catholic Educational Leadership (MACEL) is a 30-hour program for Catholic school administrator preparation with additional emphasis on the dual responsibilities of the Catholic school administrator, both professional and pastoral. Catholic theology and unique aspects of Catholic education (its history, Church teaching, educating the whole person, specific legalities) are stressed. This program is jointly sponsored by the School of Education and Human Services and the Center for Faith and Culture.
The degree is for Catholic school leaders and/or administrators who would like advanced preparation and for public school administrators beginning a career in Catholic Education. It provides additional training on the special role Catholic school administrators have for both academic and spiritual development of their faculty, staff and students. The program places distinct emphasis on the integration of faith in all aspects of the Catholic school.
This program is not eligible for state principal certification without additional coursework. However, Texas Public School Certificates are not required to work in Catholic Schools.
