Learn more - view the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)program After a recent assessment of strategic organizational priorities, UST Executive Leadership made the decision to alter the nature of the graduate nursing programs offered through the Carol and Odis Peavy School (PSON). The PSON is no longer admitting new DNP students to the UST campus. Therefore, as a result, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is being transitioned from a degree granting program into a collaborative DNP Pathway partnership with the University of Incarnate Word (UIW). Graduate students who enter the PSON Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) programs will continue to receive degrees from UST and then be eligible to continue an uninterrupted path to earn a DNP degree through the UIW program. As the only two Catholic Schools of Nursing in Texas, the PSON in Houston and UIW in San Antonio share a common mission and nursing legacy. The two programs began working collaboratively in 2022 to expand access to virtual course options. This collaborative relationship has been very positive and provides a solid base on which to build this new DNP Pathway program. Students eligible for the DNP Pathway may begin as early as fall 2025. Students currently enrolled in the DNP program will be completing their degree plans and graduating from UST Peavy School of Nursing in accord with commitments made upon program entry. The DNP program will continue to provide curricula and resources congruent with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Criteria. The program is currently undergoing a scheduled accreditation renewal process with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in March 2025, which will extend accreditation for up to ten years or until all enrolled DNP students have graduated. As part of this evaluation process, CCNE policy requires institutions to provide an opportunity for their identified communities of interest—students, alumni, faculty, employers, and the practice community—to offer written input to the evaluation team.
