Dr. Mayra Paredes is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of St. Thomas Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing (PSON). She continues to practice nursing as pediatric nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital in Neurology/Neurosurgery/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Dr. Mayra Paredes has taught pediatrics, skills labs/simulation, community nursing, and nursing foundations while supervising students during clinical rotation in pediatric nursing, community nursing, critical care medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, critical care nursing, and maternity/women’s health nursing. She truly enjoys teaching all different nursing specialties, but has a special love for pediatrics, nursing foundations and skills lab/simulation. Her research interest is interpersonal communication among nursing students and patients, simulation, and nursing education/remediation among students.

Areas of Expertise
Pediatric care in emergency observation, general pediatrics, respiratory care, and ne. Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) and hospital-acquired pressure ulcers (HAPIs).
