For nursing students, observing and treating traumas can be overwhelming. Dr. Kristina Leyden, assistant professor of nursing, asked her nursing students to create an art piece as part of a self-reflection assignment. Through art therapy, the students and their patients can make sense of traumatic events and release them.

Nursing Students Serve Guatemala, Haiti on Trip Abroad

Thirteen nursing students from the University of St. Thomas Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing embarked on one of two study abroad trips to Guatemala and Haiti as an optional experience that contributed to their required summer externship course.


Nursing Students Begin First Clinical Rotations

The 37 students from the Carol and Odis Peavy School of Nursing 2017 cohort began their perioperative clinical rotations in July 2015 at Ben Taub Hospital and CHI St. Luke’s Health–Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. This was the cohort’s first hospital rotation and also marked UST’s first peri-op rotation at St. Luke’s.

UST’s nursing students screened third to eighth grade students for blood pressure, height, weight, vision and hearing.
