40th Houston Italian Festival this October on University of St. Thomas Campus 9/11/2018
The Italian Cultural & Community Center (ICCC) will host the 40th Houston Italian Festival from Thursday, October 11 to Sunday, October 14, 2018 on the campus of the University of St. Thomas. Festa Italiana is an annual festival founded with the mission of celebrating Italian culture and heritage in the city of Houston. Recognized as a significant cultural event in the city, Festa Italiana has numerous activities to offer its guests. Admission is free for faculty, staff and students of the University of St. Thomas with a valid UST ID.
The theme for the 2018 Houston Italian Festival is “One Community, Many Cultures.” On this special 40th anniversary, Festa Italiana is celebrating the diversity of Houston and Texas as a whole. The festival welcomes people from all backgrounds and walks of life to join together for a weekend connected by a love for Italian culture, traditions, food and maybe a few glasses of wine. The theme will be reflected in the promotional materials for the festival as the photo contest prompt and on the festival grounds.
This year’s festival features live performances from DJ Italia, the Fab 5 (Beatle’s Tribute Band), Amanda Pascali and The Family, the Houston International Folk Dancing group, the Tarantellas Italian Folk dance group, the nation’s top Italian tenor Aaron Caruso, Radio Live of Houston and demonstrations by the Scuola Di Fabris Historical Duelist Corps. The festival will also showcase film screenings, activities and cooking classes for children, wine and craft beer tastings, Italian language classes, marionette puppet shows, interactive sidewalk art produced live by featured artist Carol Wells and a classic car show on Sunday.
Festival goers also have the opportunities to compete in pasta eating contests, grape stomps and a Bocce ball tournament as well as viewing submissions and winners of the amateur photography contest and I Madonnari Sidewalk Art Contest. In addition, attendees can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of three prizes: a $6,000 travel certificate for a trip to Italy, a tour of Houston’s finest restaurants (worth $1,500) or a $500 gift card.
Proceeds from the Houston Italian Festival benefit several local non-profits including the Italian Cultural & Community Center (which provides numerous educational programs, scholarship and events throughout the year for all Houstonians to enjoy).
The Houston Italian Festival is funded in part by grants from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance. A full list of our sponsors can be found on the Italian Festival website.
The ICCC is a not for profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to advance, celebrate and preserve Italian heritage and culture for all Houstonians to enjoy.
