Since 2010, Ludwick served as president of the Independent Colleges of Indiana. He was additionally serving his second term as commissioner for the Midwest Higher Education Compact. Ludwick holds a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Teachers College of Columbia University (New York), Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney Law School and Doctor of Education in policy management and organization of higher education administration from the University of Oregon (Eugene).

The UST community and other honored guests will joyfully celebrate President Ludwick’s arrival with inauguration festivities, which will include a special Mass, celebrated by His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, an Inauguration Ceremony and Picnic on the Lawn. A faith concert featuring Josh Blakesley, a Catholic musician and songwriter, ends the festivities.

Investiture, defined as the "formal ceremony of conferring the authority and symbols of high office," is traditionally held during the university president's first year in office.

The historically significant ceremony includes an academic procession of delegates from other colleges and universities as well as the institution’s own faculty. Marchers wear the colorful academic regalia of their own institution. Interspersed with musical selections, the event includes greetings from members of the university community.

The keynote speaker at Ludwick’s Inauguration Ceremony is The Reverend George William Rutler, pastor of St. Michael’s Church in New York City. Fr. Rutler’s talk, titled “Holding All Things Together,” centers on the theme of the unity of all knowledge in Christ, which is the essence of a university.  He will discuss how universal knowledge becomes unconnected without its Christological reference. Fr. Rutler is the host of several programs on EWTN, author of countless columns in his parish bulletin as well author of more than 20 books.

UST Associate Professor of Music Dr. Brady Knapp and the University Singers will perform the music at the Ceremony.

During his first four months in office, President Ludwick launched an integral planning process named The Call Toward Tomorrow. During the ceremony, he will highlight his vision for the University during his tenure.

This year marks a major milestone in the esteemed history of UST.  The university celebrates its 70th year of providing a Catholic liberal arts education while ushering in a renewed commitment to Catholic education in the Third Millennium.  Founded in 1947 by the Basilian Fathers, the University of St. Thomas embodies the principles of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, committed to the religious, ethical and intellectual traditions of Catholic higher education. UST takes pride in combining the strengths of its tradition with the preparation needed for success in the modern world.
