“Way of the Cross” Travels from UST to Co-Cathedral

Join the UST community as we walk the Way of the Cross in the heart of the city on Friday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Way of the Cross is a procession of the faithful who will carry a life-size cross from the Chapel of St. Basil, 3802 Yoakum, to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1701 San Jacinto Street. The event is organized and sponsored by the UST Campus Ministry Office and Communion and Liberation.

UST Hosts Holy Spirit, Evangelization Lecture Series
The University of St. Thomas Center for Faith and Culture and the Congregation of the Holy Spirit will host “The Holy Spirit and Evangelization,” a five-week lecture series that will explore the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church and experienced through culture. The lectures will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, April 7 – May 5 at St. Mary’s Seminary Nold Auditorium, 9845 Memorial.
“Women: At the Intersection of Nature and Culture”
The UST Women, Culture & Society Program will present the Second Annual Zambosco-Thomas Memorial event titled, “Women: At the Intersection of Nature and Culture.” This symposium of five distinguished women will be held from 7 - 8:30 p.m. April 5, 6, and 7 in Ahern, Crooker Center, 3909 Graustark. The first two evening events will address the historical contribution of minority women – representing completely different cultures – that has proven vital for the survival of their particular cultures in the state of Louisiana. April 7 lectures will address how to define the identity of women.
"Mosaics of Faith" Examines the Irish Experience
University of St. Thomas will host the annual Mosaics of Faith conference Wednesday April 14 and Wednesday, May 5 on the UST campus.  "Mosaics of Faith: The Irish Experience" will present a unique and comprehensive perspective of Christian Ireland, from those early years when the seeds of faith were planted and nourished on the island, to the current years of peace and reconciliation.
Earth Day Lecture Focuses on Education, Human Ecology
UST will host the Annual Earth Day lecture featuring internationally known speaker and Oxford scholar Stratford Caldecott from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15 in Jones Hall. Caldecott’s lecture, “Creation and the University: Education for a Human Ecology,” will reflect on the importance of teaching about creation and the natural world at a small Catholic liberal arts university like UST. The event is sponsored by Environmental Science and Studies, the Pope John Paul II Forum and the Honors Program.
UST Drama Program to Perform Steel Magnolias
The Drama Program of the Fine and Performing Arts Department will present “Steel Magnolias,” the beloved tale of Louisiana ladies whose lives are cemented by their love for each other and the hairspray in Truvy’s beauty salon. Truvy’s becomes the site of all the action, hilarious repartee and revealing verbal collisions. “Steel Magnolias” is a touching tribute to the value of family and friendship and strength of women. The show runs from 8 to 10 p.m. April 21-24, 28-30 and May 1, in Jones Theatre.
Weekley Receives Ethical Leadership Award
David Weekley, Chairman of David Weekley Homes, stands tall among servant leaders in the Houston community. For his selfless leadership, moral business acumen and unwavering level of social responsibility, Weekley has been named the 2010 recipient of the Ethical Leadership in Action Award by the University of St. Thomas Cameron School of Business Center for Business Ethics. He will be honored at a luncheon in the fall.

Alumni Fashion Show Raises Money for Scholarships

Don’t miss the University of St. Thomas Alumni Fashion Show to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 29 at River Oaks Country Club. The event is chaired by Katie Earthman Cullen and honors alumnae Saba Abashawl ‘90, Greggory Fields Burk ‘02, Robin Thomas Klaes ’84 and Sandra Pezzetta ’84 for their volunteerism at the University and in the community. Table sponsorships and raffle tickets will benefit the Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship Fund.
