The Taiwan and East Asia Studies Program at the University of St. Thomas is dedicated to fostering a critical understanding and appreciation of Taiwan’s culture, complex society, history, and political landscape. Our program serves as a bridge between Taiwan and the academic community in Houston, promoting cross-cultural dialogue and scholarly exchange.
Funded in part by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, the Taiwan & East Asia Studies Program is committed to:
- Advancing Taiwan and East Asia Studies: We offer courses, research opportunities, and academic resources focused on Taiwan's unique position in East Asia and the global community, as well as the interconnected histories, cultures, and contemporary issues of the East Asian region.
- Promoting Cultural Exchange: Through a variety of events and activities, we bring Taiwanese and East Asian cultures to life on our campus and in the Houston community.
- Facilitating Academic Discourse: Our program organizes lectures, seminars, and conferences featuring renowned scholars and experts in Taiwan and East Asian Studies.
- Supporting Student Engagement: We also provide opportunities for students to engage with Taiwan and East Asia-related topics through coursework, research projects, and potential study abroad experiences.
