|About the Center for International Studies|
Founded in 1981 and Houston’s oldest center for international studies, we provide students with the knowledge and skills to fortify their preparation for global careers in advocacy, commerce, diplomacy, law, politics, inter-cultural communications, public service, or teaching. Our faculty, programs, and extra-curricular activities equip students with the skills and knowledge related to the study of international politics and trade, cultures, and language that will help them achieve future goals.
The Center for International Studies (CIS) at the University of St. Thomas houses the Department of International Studies & Modern Languages (ISML), Geography Program, Distinguished Diplomat Program, Taiwan & East Asia Studies Program, and numerous student clubs.
The ISML offers majors in International Studies, International Development, International Business (with the Cameron School of Business), Romance Languages, and Spanish with regular faculty-led course offerings through study abroad programs. Students may pursue several joint major opportunities with communication, economics, political science, psychology, and Spanish. The CIS program allows students to tailor their studies to personal interests and career objectives through acquisition of concentrations in Diplomacy & Conflict and International Development or the Strategic Areas Certificate in East Asia or North Africa/Middle East.
