Intro - Freshman SymposiumFreshman Symposium is offered in a student’s first fall semester at the University of St. Thomas.  The course is one-credit hour and introduces the student to the UST mission, with an emphasis on how the Basilian Fathers’ core values of goodness, discipline, and knowledge provide the foundation of a Catholic, liberal arts education.

Freshman Symposium features a Common Read program, which provides a shared intellectual experience for incoming freshmen, and a class-wide service-learning project that serves our local community.

Unique in its mission and approach, the First Year Experience Study Abroad (FYESA) program is just for freshmen. You’ll earn a two-hour spring course credit and have the option to travel to Italy or Costa Rica. You’ll have a blast zip lining, touring rainforests and going white water rafting with your UST classmates.

Better yet, you’ll gain first-hand experience with social justice issues while serving vulnerable communities, especially valuable when applying to medical, dental or grad school programs. All freshmen have the opportunity to participate in this adventure. Additional FYESA perks include:

  • Small class sizes & group travel
  • Résumé-boosting global experience
  • UST leadership opportunities
  • Generous study abroad scholarships
