Honors Student Raises Money, Supplies for Peruvian Orphanage

Brittany Garza, a senior math major and pre-physician assistant student, traveled to “pueblos” or small towns of Peru for a medical mission project. With medical staff and other volunteers of the Christian Emergency Relief Teams International, they set up clinics in schools or houses, stringing up sheets across clotheslines for the makeshift clinic walls.

The University of St. Thomas Pre-Physician assistant program is designed to prepare students for entry into physician assistant school.

Pre-Physician Assistant Program is a rigorous science- and math-based program that can be combined with any major. It is important to note that the Pre-Physician Assistant Program is not a major but rather a program consisting of a minimum of 33 credit hours of science and math courses. The exact number of courses and credit hours will depend on the physician assistant program to which you are planning to apply. These courses serve as the prerequisites for applying to physician assistant school.

How to Get Started

Your journey begins in your first year by talking to your Academic Advisor about your interest in the physician assistant profession and meeting with a pre-health professions advisor. All students in the program will declare a major, take pre-physician assistant courses and participate in the core curriculum.

Pre-Health Professions Advisors

The pre-health professions advisors assist students in tandem with their major advisor. The pre-health professions advisor informs the student of prerequisite courses, admissions test dates and application deadlines. As students prepare their application the pre-health professions advisor provides workshops, application feedback and letters of evaluation for application to physician assistant school.
