Study Abroad in MoroccoThe Center for International Studies offers study abroad scholarships to assist students with their goal of studying in other countries.

Study Abroad scholarships require completed recommendation forms.

University of St. Thomas Study Abroad Scholarships

The University provides scholarships ranging from $500 - $1,000 to support credit-bearing participation in UST group studies abroad or individual semester-long studies abroad. Please contact the Study Abroad Office for more information.

Students with UST scholarships need to make arrangements with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. The Business Office should provide a letter of proof (letters via email are acceptable) to the Office of Study Abroad.

Strategic Areas Certificate Program Study Abroad Scholarships

Available again in January 2018.

The University of St. Thomas has received a Department of Education grant under the Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Languages Program that provides multiple $1,500 study abroad scholarships for undergraduate students with financial need (preference to PELL Grant eligible students). These scholarships are dedicated to supporting studies abroad in China, Japan, or Taiwan and can be applied to group study abroad or individual studies abroad.  The study abroad experience must be completed by June 1, 2016.  The University expects renewal of this grant to also provide study abroad scholarships for the 2015-16 academic year.

Dr. Gustavo Wensjoe Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Gustavo Wensjoe Memorial Fund was established in March 2009 in honor of Dr. Gustavo Wensjoe, former chair of the Center for International Studies, to support CIS students in their studies abroad.


Bishop McCarthy Travel Grant

The Flynn Center for Irish Studies offers students scholarships for summer study abroad as well as semester or year study abroad programs. Scholarships are based upon GPA, merit and financial need.

BAFTX was established to help provide financial assistance and educational opportunities to academically-gifted students in the United Kingdom & the United States who otherwise might not be able to pursue their education due to financial constraints.

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program of up to $5,000 towards study abroad that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. This program is available to students who are U.S. citizens, enrolled and in good standing at an accredited academic institution, and applying for a study abroad program of at least three weeks in length. Grantees also receive twelve months of non-competitive eligibility (NCE) hiring status within the federal government after participation in the program.

LewerMark “Make Your Mark” Scholarship Program

“Four scholarships will be given to inbound international students (on F or J visas), plus one scholarship given to a study abroad student.”

A 750 to 1,000-word essay must be submitted.

Scholarships amounts for International Students (F or J visas) start at $750 for fourth place and $1,500 for first.

The Study Abroad Winner will receive $750.

The application deadline for both scholarships is April 15, 2018. This is a reoccurring scholarship.
