Finding Aid

A Finding Aid is a tool for discovering the specific contents of a record group, such as departments, publications, faculty, photographs, etc.   A Finding Aid provides:

  • A description of the collection in terms of length
  • Background information about the creator of the collection
  • An explanation of how the collection was acquired and the name(s) of the donor(s)
  • The dates and time span of the collection
  • A list of the contents of the collection
  • A description of the physical condition of the collection, and if there are any restrictions
